I was overwhelmed by your response to my last post. I am still reeling from the number of comments; I have never had so much interaction of any of my posts before. I want to thank you all for taking time out of your day to read my work and share your thoughts. If it weren't for you, I'd just be talking to myself. And while I do that on a regular basis, it's nice to have someone else to talk to every once in a while.
A few people have asked me by email about my stats. The thought seems to be that, with so many comments, I must have millions of pageviews. But I don't. Here are my stats from this week:
Huh. It appears that I get more pageviews when I actually post something. Who knew, right?
That's a huge reader-to-comment ratio and I really can't express my gratitude for your interaction with me and with each other. I honestly feel like I have the most engaged readership possible. So yeah...gush, gush, blah, blah, I love you guys. For real.
Sharing Time
And in other news, I want to share some fabulous blogs with you.
Jen is a good friend of mine. She started out as a blog friend, but has since been promoted to friend friend. She sent me a pop-up book about zombies, which was pretty much the clincher. Recently she asked me for a list of funny blogs to read.
If I were internet famous, these people would get a huge traffic spike. But for today, the following purveyors of awesome will have to be happy with 12ish clicks.
Disclaimer number two: There are a lot of really good blogs out there. It was hard to keep this list short. If your blog isn't on this list, it isn't because I don't love you. (And this is why I don't like passing on blog awards. I suffer from a bit of a guilt complex and am therefore generally more of a "prizes for everyone!" kind of girl.)
Click for funny:
Violet at Creative Devolution is one of the few bloggers who always, without fail, makes me laugh out loud. Her illustrations are some of the best ones out there and her stories are just so funny. And also, she makes throw-up look like rainbows, which is all kinds of awesome.
Catalog Living is not a personal blog, unlike all of the other blogs on my list. But it's hilarious. It follows the adventures of the fictional Gary and Elaine, with a photo (from a catalog - hence the name) and a one-line caption in each post. The caption under this photo? Gary looked down at the bench in horror, knowing that Elaine was somewhere out in the ocean without her swim scarf.
Gweenbrick has raised unpredictability to an art form. I never know what to expect from his rambling illustrated self-deprecating stream-of-consciousness posts, but I can safely assume that he will make me laugh out loud at least twice on any given day. There aren't that many blogs out there that are truly original; this is one of them.
MOV at Mothers of Brothers can always bring a smile to my face. Her posts are filled with exaggeration and indignation, which is pretty much the perfect combination. She writes about things that we can all relate to, like trying to cancel the cable, swearing around kids and ripping her magical favourite skirt of the universe. And also she published a book! Her book is a collection of short, funny essays from her blog - if you love her blog, then you'll love her book.
Good Youngman Brown manages to be both funny and thought-provoking with his well-crafted posts. He writes about things that I get, like turn signals that have a good sound and grammatical pet peeves and things that give you nightmares. He also once went inside a real haunted abandoned insane asylum on purpose (add that to the list of things that give me nightmares).
It's such a cop-out to link to The Bloggess. I mean, everybody already knows that she's funny. But I only started reading her blog this past year, and I wish that I'd found her sooner. She is truly laugh-out-loud-until-my-stomach-hurts hilarious. And also she has a thing for taxidermied rodents.
I love Cheeseblarg. In her last post, she actually wrote the words "it's not what's on the inside that counts, your insides are squishy and mostly full of poop". And that is both beautiful and true. Her digital illustrations are cute, creative and always make me laugh.
Hollow Tree Ventures is a new-to-me blog that has quickly become one of my favourites. Robyn writes about things that I can relate to, like the fact that brain clutter is keeping her from sharing her ground-breaking ideas with the world. Her posts are funny, well-written and illustrated with hilarious diagrams.
And now for three other funny people you should follow on both the twitter machine AND your blog reader:

@brettminor blogs at The Tranformed Non-Comformist

@sofriedchildren blogs at Southern Fried Children

@notthatkendall blogs at This Is Not That Blog
Happy Sunday everyone!
Oh, yay! Reading material! I'm on my phone right now but I will save those links and check out the blogs as soon as I can. (=
ReplyDeleteI wish I could read blogs on my phone! But my connection is tooooo sloooooow.
DeleteChecked out the blogs...most I'm already reading but they are all good!
ReplyDeleteAck! You should have been on my list! See? This is why I hate lists.
DeleteThanks for the links of other blogs to read; always looking for a good read! It is interesting with the comments we get on particular posts; what I think should be an interesting one usually has the lowest response; the ones where I pour out my heart get the most responses. Don't get it (unless people enjoy reading train wrecks :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a delightful day!
betty
I never really pour my heart here, so I can't compare. Ha! but I definitely think that the reactions to posts can be surprising and unexpected.
DeleteHahah I agree with all your blogs listed - very nice!
ReplyDeleteAnd you too! You too! You're funny too! See? This is why I hate lists.
DeleteOooh, I love catalog living!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it HILARIOUS? I used to read it in my reader, but now I just wait a few weeks and read a bunch of posts in a row. For some reason they make me giggle more when they're one after another.
DeletePeople comment 'cause you're awesome and funny! Looking forward to your next story, as usual... :)
ReplyDeleteI'll almost surely put up a new story this week. Although as it stands I have no idea what it will be about. I've got nothing.
DeleteThanks for the shout out. While blogs require more of a complete thought and I love my bogoging, Twitter comes so much easier and doesn't require full development. I guess that's why I tweet so much. Thank you for both.
ReplyDeleteYou're really good at twitter. I can't come up with a funny tweet to save my life.
DeleteI always find it somewhat embarrassing when someone links to an awesome blog that I haven't found yet and I realize what I have been missing. And with your links I just found two new ones this way.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the shout-out and the very kind words. It is very humbling to be liked by someone as talented as yourself.
If you're embarrassed, then my job here is done. I'd hate to have people leave my blog feeling GOOD.
DeleteI'm always a big fan of the blogs and posts you recommend, so I can't wait to check these out!
ReplyDeleteThe stats thing is so weird to me---as my number of pageviews goes up, my number of comments goes down. I'm beyond trying to figure it out, but I feel the same way you do---appreciative and a little incredulous that people take time to read it!
Cheers to you, my friend.
I've had to cut down on my comments because things are busy at work right now, and I"m trying to spend a bit less time reading blogs. But I always read yours on my phone during breaks at work - and it's hard to comment on the phone. So I might only comment once or twice a week, but I'm there! I'm there! I'm reading!
DeleteThanks Stephanie! I thought I was following you already, but I got this update through twitter, so not sure whats up with that-at worse, I will now be following you twice! Thanks for your kind words!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU for the funny.
DeleteYou should never wonder why you get a lot of comments, Stephanie. All of us who visit here know your blog is truly unique, amazingly creative and wonderfully imaginative! I think your stats will just keep growing and growing! :D
ReplyDeleteWonderful list of bloggers. I'm familiar with most of them but not all, and will be sure to check them out. :)
--Susan
And you! You! You should be on the list! (I hate making lists. Bah.)
DeleteHi Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great compliment! I think your appeal is even more than your originality and talent. You are so very generous with your time and your platform. We're all here because we think you rock.
Do I have a platform? That's unfortunate, because I have very bad balance. Is there lava on one side of the platform and sharks on the other? (and I love that mental image and am totally making it out of clay. Called it, called it, no one else is allowed to copy me.)
DeleteGood choices!!
ReplyDeleteHoly shmoly Stephanie that IS a lot of comments and a HUGE reader-comment ratio. It's probably because you are awesome!
And don't use Disquis. When I get the time I'm going to take it off.
Your scenes are wonderful that's why people love you!!
I used to have Intense Debate. I prefer the blogger commenting system, except that I wish that it sent email notices when I respond. I spend a lot of time responding, but I really don't think that most people ever come back to read my answers.
DeleteOOOO I love new blogs! Thanks for the links :)
ReplyDeleteHope you love them as much as I do!
DeleteYou get a ot of comments cause your blog is stupendous!
ReplyDeleteI find blogging like present giving, you have to give it to get it!
I try to give more than I get! It's hard sometimes, though, when life gets in the way. Life. Bah.
DeleteThanks for the references I checked out some new ones that I hadn't came across yet and just got my daily dose of the best medicine so funny. I am pleased though your list contained some of my favs also. Thanks Stephanie.
ReplyDeleteHope you love them all as much as I do!
DeleteI am so glad you mentioned Gweebrick and Brett. They are two of my favorite bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThere's a whole world of funny bloggers that I didn't even know existed until I started this blog. I feel like I get a gift every time I read a post that makes me laugh!
DeleteHey Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking me!!! I have never been called a "Purveyor of Awesome" before, and indeed it does seem like somewhat of a promotion from "Mean Ol' Mommy" or "That kooky neighbor lady who yells at other people's kids."
THANK YOU! Just know we are part of the Mutual Admiration Society, and I have a permanent link to you on my sidebar (under "Funny Blogs MOV Loves"), so your readers could click to my blog, back to yours, back to mine, back to yours, until they are dizzy. Ah, good times.
xxo
MOV
ps-- never knew Kelly was such a funny twitterer!!!
Kelly is a laugh-out-loud funny twit. And thank you for working in cooperation with me to create an internet vortex from which no one will ever escape.
DeleteStephanie, you always find the funniest things to share with us. I save them and read them throughout the week when I need a lift. I know why people read you...you're funny and just overall fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI love things that make me laugh. I find myself gravitating more and more towards humour blogs. (Although I will always love my original blog friends too!)
Deleteof course i will read your blog even if there are no clay figures - they are just the icing on the cake when you include them (although you could have made some type of clay medal/award for today?? haha!).
ReplyDeletethat is awesome that you have such an engaged readership - one of the best aspects of blogging is the interaction through commenting!
Clay icing. Gross. I do love the interaction! You're right...it's part of what makes blogging so addictive.
DeleteAck, I usually have something super-sarcastic to say, ESPECIALLY when someone's saying something really, really nice about me, but I'm at a loss - thank you so much for including me on such a wonderful list. It means a lot, especially coming from you, whose blog I truly love and enjoy and makes me laugh every time I visit and who I can tell is the kind of person who will forgive me for the fact that this sentence is clunky and run-on and riddled with poor grammar. I'm in great company up there, and I can't wait to check out the folks I haven't read yet!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm totally adding Purveyor of Awesome to my resume - it's sure to overshadow some of the less professional stuff on there, like "Reason For Leaving Last Job: excessive desk fires" and the fact that I have no references.
And see? See what you just did? You just wrote a comment that's funnier than my post. Keep on purveying that awesome.
DeleteThank you! I will get started going through this list today when I am trying to avoid work.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea it was the zombie pop up book that sealed the deal. I'm glad I thought of it!
No, I'm lying. You sealed the deal long before then. But I like to mention the zombie book whenever the opportunity arises.
DeleteDang it! I already fall behind on the blogs I regularly read, and now you've piqued my interest in a couple of new ones. Damn you, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteIt's the danger of blogging. There's just so much good stuff out there! Every now and then I start feeling overwhelmed by the number of things that I have to read. That's when I try to remind myself that it's best to also have an off-computer life, and click "mark all as read".
DeleteYou've given me more fuel to feed my blogging addiction. Who needs to do housework, anyway? And, the kids are pretty good at feeding themselves.
ReplyDelete(I'm blown away by all your comments, but more so by the fact that you respond to all of them. You rock.)
Housework is RIDICULOUSLY overrated. I mean seriously, who wants a clean house? Pshaw.
Delete(Confession: I totally want a clean house. I just don't want to clean it myself.)
Umm, your posts are so awesome that it is harder NOT to comment than it is to leave one! And clicked that second link down (catalog living) and somehow lost 30 minutes. The power of the Internet.
ReplyDeleteBest. Blog. Ever. See? It's so funny that it even made me write a sentence with a period after every word, and I NEVER do that.
DeleteYour posts are awesome. And YOUR commenting is awesome. You get the love you give. Thank you for persisting in commenting on our blog today. We turned it back on because we were getting BOMBED by this one spammer with multiple emails. It seems the cycle is broken, so let's just say we should be good for yeah write me. Shhh, it's our secret, in case they are listeing. ;) Ellen
ReplyDelete"You get the love you give." <--- words to live by. And I'm sorry I had a minor tantrum on your blog. Ha! But yeah, spammers suck.
DeleteMan, there are so many blogs and just so little time. I want to read everything! But I am a big slacker lately.
ReplyDeleteYour comment to page views ratio is ridiculous! That is amazing! Mine is almost the opposite...however, I think this is because Clay Baboons is relatively new and you are probably not showing up in lot of Google searches yet (I could be wrong, who knows...) But that definitely bumped up my page views. People who are searching for "fisting" are usually quite disappointed and don't leave comments...
And I am ALWAYS so paranoid that I've left something on, but I never turn around. I make myself assume it's off. And it always is :)
AND I looooved your little car clay/cartoons in the iron post. Loved.
I'm starting to get a few google hits. Most of them are for long random searches, like "Can I holler at you for 45 minutes". And now, with this comment of yours, I'm hoping that I'll get some hits for "fisting". (crosses fingers)
DeleteYOU are another of my favourite funny bloggers. Honestly, I should have made a much longer list.
Stephanie--I always enjoy seeing a new post from you in my Google Reader! Thanks for new blogs to check out--they are all new to me. I mean I've heard of the bloggess, but have never read . . .
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
That was me until earlier this year. And now I'm HOOKED. She's hilarious. I have to admit that I don't always get the appeal of a lot of the "big" bloggers. But I get her. I really, really get her.
DeleteThese are actually all brand new to me. Thanks for the recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy them! So much to read, so little time...
DeleteYou'll be blowing up in no time with a bajillion page hits and followers with what you're doing here. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm not sure that I want it to blow up. I like feeling that I "know" my readers, and it would be really hard to keep up with everyone if I had a bajillion page views.
DeleteIt's astounding you find the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I only post once a week. And it's also why I love my phone during breaks at work. Ha!
DeleteA couple of blogs I have never seen before. But I cant follow more than I am or my brain will explode, what with blogging and the big art project thing for the cultural Olympics. I am starting to miss other people stuff as it is, so plan reduce back to just the few blogs I regularly read soon....... This will include yourself. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for choosing real life! Good luck with your art!
DeleteI'll have to check out several of the blogs you've listed. They sound great!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy them. There are just SO MANY good blogs out there.
DeleteI just recently found The Bloggess, too. Thanks for the other blogs to check out!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes want to go back and read all of her archives. But then I remember that there aren't enough hours in the day. ;)
DeleteI haven't seen any of these before... all brand new blogs to me... thanks for the links!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I could have listed 40 good blogs. There are lots of talented writers out there!
DeleteThanks, Stephanie, for the lists of funny blogs and fun things to see on the Internet. Love them!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy stopping by to see whatever you've posted!
Thanks Anne! I live to serve. And also to make sure that you never have time to do housework again.
DeleteStephanie you really are incredibly artistic. Your blog is one of 'those' blogs I follow - that I get excited to see a new post in my reader from.
ReplyDeleteI might be a storyteller...but you, friend, are a true artist. Thank you for reading!
DeleteI can't believe it's taken me so long to read your blog. I'm checking out the links you've suggested and I'm super curious about your last post! After this will be heading over to look at it.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited lol
Oh...hope you aren't disappointed. Ha! Welcome, glad you stopped by!
DeleteYou deserve every last click and comment. I'm so glad you're talking to us and I'm tweeting you about something that made me think of you..
ReplyDeleteYou're one of my oldest blog buddies, so I'm equally glad that YOU're talking to ME and that you followed me from my old spot. :)
DeleteSome great stuff there. Thanks for the recommendations. I also love The Bloggess. She's my hero.
ReplyDeleteShe has such a strong and unique voice. I want to be her when I grow up!
DeleteI always enjoy your posts! They always make me smile. Thanks for the recommendations.
ReplyDeleteBTW: Whether you like it or not I am awarding you the Kreativ Blog award. You can pick it up at my blog. If you don't want to pass it on you have my permission not to.
http://myviewthroughkateyes.blogspot.com/2012/05/woohoo-another-award-and-another.html
Thank you Kat! That's so kind of you. I'm honoured and excited! I don't usually pass awards on, because I really really hate choosing people. But I do appreciate the shout out!
DeleteYAY! I'm excited about checking out these new blogs. Since I'm still new to the world of blogging, I'm always keeping an eye out for new folks to start following.
ReplyDeleteAnd, even without clay, I still think you're awesome!
Aw, thanks Missy! OK, I apologize for posting a bunch of links and therefore guaranteeing that you'll spend the next few days glued to the computer. ;)
DeleteWhat? No need to apologize... Well, ok. Maybe just a small apology. But, let's be honest. I really don't have much of a life to begin with, so being glued to the computer actually gives me purpose.
DeleteThis is like a rabbit hole of new information/ links. I'm overwhelmed!
ReplyDeleteSorry about that. Feel free to ignore this post completely if you prefer! ;)
DeletePageviews aren't all they're cracked up to be. It's all about return views. If people view your page once and never come back, what's the point? Sounds like you have a lot of return readers... us included... which is worth its weight in gold!
ReplyDeleteSo very true! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when i see the same names in my comment threads. I love my return readers!
DeleteCongratulations on receiving so many viewers and comments. As you said, it is just awesome when your post is appreciated. Could you tell me how did you get the graph? Is it available on blogger too?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
loved the catalogue one- i think i inhaled my wine when i saw the chardon-nay sayer. have you seen texts from dog- i think it's on tumblr? it cracks me up--disclaimer: it's at least pg-13 for texting language.
ReplyDeleteOoh I love finding new blogs, esp funny ones, thanks. And many congrats on your stats. Amazing. Well done :)
ReplyDeleteI know I'm commenting twice in one post, but that's what you get for not updating :p I've nominated you for the beautiful blogger award.
ReplyDeleteAll three of those tweets made me LOL. :)
ReplyDeleteToo many good blogs out there...not enough time!
ReplyDeleteWow...250 views would be an amazing week for me, let alone a day!
I agree with Zo! I would kill for 250 page views a day. I'm also really happy that you posted this list. It goes really well with the Kreativ Blogger award that I would like to extend to you. You can check it out on my blog here- http://ckenney76.blogspot.com/2012/05/kreativ-blogger.html Please keep in mind this is NOT spam. Now I am off to check out some of these great looking blog recommendations!
ReplyDeleteIt is ironic that the days you post are they days you have visitors. I wonder why? Thanks for sharing all the links to blogs.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I just found your blog and I'm so glad. I am new at this but I can't wait to look at stats--it's so interesting, even though totally perplexing at times. I will for sure be back!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on that amazing ratio!! You shouldn't be suprised though, your blogs are really original and fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGood work Stephanie. I am a sucker for this creative clay space. Thanks for the links too... I think my procrastination was beginning to falter, thanks for getting me back on track... stack of ironing... almost touching the ceiling... you're the BEST! :) Love Elle xo
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and don't mind that there is no clay in this post. I've tagged you on my blog... http://1219sibmtt.blogspot.com/2012/05/tag-im-it-you-could-be-next.html
ReplyDeleteI miss you.
ReplyDeleteI miss you, too, but seeing as I am just getting to this post, and have only posted on my own blog like three times in the past two months, well...I can TOTALLY relate. Sometime you just need a little break. Really, it's going around. I swear there is something in the stars causing lots of folks to feel burnt out right now.
ReplyDeleteI do hope the wheelbarrow signifies the load of awesome clay stories coming our way after this hiatus is over.
